We sure had fun on Saturday running with the ASCA sprint cars at Canyon Speedway Park. We went out for hot laps with a ton of stagger in the car and came off of the track in a jiffy. The track was taking rubber in hot laps! We went in and had the crew (Josh and Jason) make some drastic changes to the car. Pill draw was as lucky as ever with pill 22 that lined us up 3rd in the heat. Working the bottom grove the double zero got to the lead by lap 2 and held onto it for three or for laps and then got passed by a couple of cowboys on the topside.

A little disappointed we settled for a third place finish in the heat race. I pulled in from the heat race and noticed a long time crew member Scott McKean had arrived to give the boys a hand during the night. The team got the car on jacks and got right to work. We took our main event set up (dry slick) off of the car that we ran for the heat race and made a few more changes that we thought were necessary to chase the track in the main. A few shocks here, a few inches of stagger there and whalla. We lined up for the 25 lap main in P8 on the outside of RJ Johnson (Driving The Michaels Ford powered Buckley). We worked our way past a couple of cars on the bottom side of the track for a few laps and found ourselves running in fourth place. We made a few more passes to get to second but caution flags sent us back to fourth (this happened multiple times) With a little patients and determination we ran the second half of the race in second place behind RJ and secured our career best sprint car finish. Congratulations to RJ on his WIN! A third in the heat and a second in the main is pretty darn good for our team in the sprint car ranks. Thanks to ASCA for making us feel welcome. I have a feeling we will be running a full schedule with this club next season. Another thanks to Art for not running us over when I know that he could have. What a gentleman! As always Thank You for your interest in SLIDE JOB RACING and check back soon te see where we will be next. |
